Barbara has lived with dogs for many years. Originally training her own dogs and becoming a trainer for a large training school in Altrincham, she went on to running her own training school, became an APDT Trainer, Member of IACE, was Kennel Club registered, and alongside preparing students for the Kennel Club Good Citizen schemes for Puppy, Bronze Silver and Gold, held classes in Pet Dog Training, fun classes, fun agility, and flyball. Barbara also taught 1-1, and held behavioural consultations, helping many clients with behaviour issues.

Having had difficulty in finding suitable accommodation for her own dogs years ago when going on holiday, she

decided that there had to be something other than boarding kennels where owners could leave their dog with

peace of mind. As her dogs had always had the comfort of a home environment and lots of attention, she felt it

unfair to abandon them in a hostile place surrounded by barking dogs and away from their everyday familiarities

and comforts. At that time, there were no home boarding facilities and so she had to do a lot of research and

work to make it all legal, get herself registered and licensed. The authorities also had not heard of home boarding and they too had to scratch around to try and find a suitable Licensing policy to enable her to be fully licensed. Finally The Hound Hotel was opened in Market Drayton, fully licensed; The Hound Hotel took 4 dogs at any one time from different families, plus Barbara´s own four golden retrievers..... and she loved it!  Nowadays of course, many people do home boarding. However, Licensing laws have changed and home boarding establishments are only able to take dogs from one family at any one time.

Having lived in Spain for 9 years, the latter 7 years with her partner Martin, and having lost her dogs

one by one, the prospect of living without a dog was just not an option. She researched the current lines of

golden retrievers in Europe and they now have two beautiful youngsters who have been shown successfully over in Spain.

Living the life in Spain was very lovely, of course the weather, living on the coast, it was beautiful..... but there was something missing ...... there was a strong pull to come back home and to work again with dogs.

Martin, too has had dogs throughout his life, has owned a stud farm, breeding, showing and judging horses.

Martin has also been the handler in showing their own retrievers in Spain, winning so many cups and awards in

their short showing career already, which can be seen displayed in reception.  Having returned to the UK, Martin continues to show the dogs.

You will notice that nowhere on this site do we refer to Hound Hall as being a kennel, and for good reason! We

believe that at Hound Hall, we are offering to our canine clients a unique experience in one of our four luxury

rooms / suites.

The facility is, we believe, totally unique in that is has been designed and constructed with the sole purpose of

providing comfort and security, specifically with the guests in mind.

To this end, the accommodation has been built according to building regulations for human habitation and

totally indoors, though with further outside exercise and recreational areas.

No expense has been spared during construction with electrics, plumbing, drainage, heating, ventilation,

insulation etc., all executed to the highest possible standard.

This facility has been constructed from the ground up, by Bolton Builders.  Any inspection would confirm our total satisfaction as to the quality of the work involved which has all been brought in according to previously agreed timescales.  We would have absolutely no reservations in recommending this company to anybody anticipating anything from a minor extension to a substantial new build project, from the point of view of cost, effeciency and total reliability.

The selection of materials, fittings and furniture has been given an equally high priority, as will be evident upon

inspection. We would encourage you to make an appointment to visit us prior to booking and have a look around.  This will allow us to give you our full attention, during what is always a busy day.

All the electrics have been completed to the highest level, complying with IEE electrical regulations.  Alongside all the internal electrical work, JDC Electrical have installed outdoor lighting, electric smoke and heat detector alarms, underfloor heating, preparation for CCTV´s, TV´s, telephones, and  exit points in the unlikely event of power failure.  JDC Electrics are based in Market Drayton and offer an efficient, reliable, tidy  and professional service which we could not fault.

Hound Hall is a place where all dogs can relax and chill, in a stress-free environment. Hours upon hours have

been spent designing the build to enable comfort and enjoyment. The rooms have under-floor heating to offer warmth, a fresh air system for health benefits, socialisation for stimulation, glass doors to enable viewing and create a light and airy atmosphere, televisions, pictures on the walls, curtains, and windows for natural light.

No expense has been spared to maximise the enjoyment of the holiday. Guests can watch the famous ´Dog

Sitter´dvd for entertainment, or on cold miserable days the dogs can lie on their warm floor, with a lovely log fire showing on their TV in the background. Playtime is an important factor and alongside toys, balls, retrieves and play with other dogs (if agreed by the owner) mental stimulation such as bacon flavoured bubbles are on the agenda or stuffed kongs and bones. There is a large exercise area and paddock and even a play barn for those dogs who do not like rain!

Hound Hall is literally a few steps from the main house, so we are on close by during the night. In the event

of any problems, we will be on hand to attend and help.

Walks are given each day unless it is specified and all dogs are kept on lead when outside the premises.

Dogs will wear a dog disc with Hound Hall details at all times.

Security is an important factor and we are pleased to say that Hound Hall has CCTV security in order to monitor the dogs at all times.  Fencing of 2 meters high gives added security and peace of mind around the play and exercise areas.

All dogs are individuals, different breeds, different ages etc., and all have different and unique needs. We work with the individual dog to enable their stay to be as mentally stimulating, fun, and relaxing as can possibly be. One dog will want to have more exercise; another will want to relax more. Whatever your dog´s requirement, we will ensure that he receives it.

Please feel free to bring any items with you that you feel will help your dog to settle.  Although we have lovely beds and bedding, you are more than welcome to bring your own.  Again, we have lots of toys but you are more than welcome to bring your own if you feel it will help your dog to settle.
